Welcome
Welcome to my photo journal.
Philadelphia is one of my favorite places to be, and taking pictures of it in a way that I have not done previously makes me appreciate it all the more, so it should not surprise you that it would feature quite prominently here.
I started out largely taking pictures of architecture in the City of Brotherly Love, but in some weeks of pointing and shooting, I find that I not only like to take pictures of buildings, statues, and still life, but also animals and people. I use a small point-and-shoot camera, which works well for me in capturing images of "my" Philadelphia. Someday, however, I might well invest in a better camera-- perhaps one with SLR capabilities, or at least one with better shutter speed.
I generally categorize my entries (and thus my photos) according to subject, which are found under "themes" to your right. Please feel free to look around.
The title of the journal comes from a Sherlock Holmes quote, whereby the famously witty and acerbic detective chastises his best bud, Dr. Watson, for injecting too much "color and life" into his tales of their adventures instead of concentrating on the analysis. I suppose Mr. Holmes didn't mind that the stories made his name. But then again, he did end up retiring to a farm in Sussex to keep bees and live in peace and quiet.
I happened upon the John Bartram quote on a trip to Bartram's Gardens one day. I liked it very much, largely because "variety pleaseth me," too. Bartram and his son William were two of Early America's finest botanists.
